WHEN SOMEONE’S INVESTED IN DRAGGING YOU DOWN, IT’S BECAUSE YOU’RE SHINING IN A WAY THEY HAVEN’T LEARNED TO - SIMPLY SHENEKA

Sometimes, people will go out of their way to bring you down. You’re out here minding your own business, putting in the work to elevate yourself, and suddenly, there’s someone who seems determined to make you feel small. It’s easy to get caught up in the drama, to take it personally, and even question if you’re doing something wrong. But the truth is, when someone is so invested in dragging you down, it’s because you’re shining in a way they haven’t learned to.

Your light reminds them of their own shadows, the parts of themselves they’ve been neglecting or don’t know how to embrace. It’s not your job to dim your glow just because they can’t handle it. So, keep radiating, stay in your lane, and remember that their behavior has everything to do with them and nothing to do with you. They’re the ones carrying the burden of their unresolved issues—don’t let them hand it over to you.

The Psychology Behind The Hate

When someone fixates on tearing you down, it’s usually because there’s something about you that triggers their insecurities. Your achievements highlight what they feel they lack. Your confidence irritates the parts of them that haven’t learned self-love. Your happiness reminds them of the joy they haven’t given themselves permission to experience.

This isn’t to say that you should pity them or try to “fix” them. No one has time for that kind of savior complex. But it does mean that you should recognize that their actions are a reflection of their inner world, not a valid critique of yours. Misery loves company, and their negativity is just an attempt to lure you into a space that feels familiar and comfortable to them—low vibration, stagnant energy, stuckness.

Keep It Moving—Literally & Energetically

You’ve got a choice: you can either carry their negativity with you, letting it weigh down your spirit, or you can release it and keep ascending. The more you rise, the more you’ll notice who tries to reach for your ankles to pull you back down. But here’s the kicker—they can only drag you down if you give them permission to.

The moment you feel someone’s energy trying to infiltrate your vibe, pause and remind yourself that you’re not obligated to accept it. This doesn’t mean avoiding constructive feedback or real advice. But there’s a difference between someone who wants to see you grow and someone who’s invested in keeping you at their level. You know the difference, so don’t let it shake you.

Keep moving, both literally and energetically. Change up your routines, practice grounding yourself through meditation, and use affirmations that remind you who you are. Stay true to your path and trust that your journey doesn’t require anyone’s validation. Your worth is intrinsic—it doesn’t need anyone’s stamp of approval to be legit.

Let Them Stay Stuck In The Mud While You Rise

The people who try to drag you down are usually stuck in their own mud, spinning their wheels but not getting anywhere. They’re so busy pointing fingers that they haven’t realized they’re still in the same place, carrying the same burdens they’ve had for years. It’s not your job to help them out of the mud—it’s your job to keep climbing.

When you rise: the mud doesn’t reach you. Their insults, their drama, and their negative energy can’t cling to you when you’re vibrating at a higher frequency. Let them stay stuck if that’s what they choose, but don’t let them pull you in. Keep rising, and soon, the only thing they’ll be able to see is your back as you move further and further out of their reach.

Protecting Your Peace Is A Full-Time Job

It’s not selfish to protect your peace—it’s necessary. Your time, energy, and emotional well-being are precious, and they shouldn’t be wasted on people who don’t value them. You don’t owe anyone access to your light, especially if they only want to bask in it just to throw shade. Boundaries are your best friend in moments like these. Keep them firm and unapologetic.

You might notice some people fall away as you set these boundaries, and that’s okay. When you’re elevating, not everyone can go where you’re headed. Some people aren’t equipped to rise with you, and that’s their journey to figure out—not yours.

Remember, Your Shine Is A Choice, Not A Condition

Shining isn’t about everything going perfectly in your life. It’s not about having all the answers or never facing setbacks. Your shine is a choice—it’s the decision to keep showing up for yourself, to keep growing, and to keep pushing forward even when it’s difficult. It’s about choosing your light over their darkness every single time.

When you choose to keep radiating despite the negativity coming your way, you’re setting an example for others who might be going through something similar. You’re showing them that it’s possible to rise above the chaos and live a life that’s not dictated by other people’s opinions.

So keep shining. Shine so bright that it irritates anyone who’s too comfortable with mediocrity. Shine in a way that forces people to either elevate with you or stay in their own mess. And if they choose to stay stuck in the mud while you rise, let them. That’s their choice to make. Yours is to keep ascending, no matter what.

Rise, Glow, Repeat

At the end of the day, remember that your path is yours alone. The ones trying to drag you down are just distractions—don’t let them steer you off course. Keep rising, keep glowing, and keep repeating this process every single day. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it. Let your shine be the loudest response to anyone who tries to dim your light. And trust, there’s nothing louder than a soul on fire.
